well.. I figured as much info I can gather the better off it will be for others who try to hatch out Ratite eggs

lol.. plus I like to research things to death... I have 2 books so far .. one dealing with just incubation of Ratites.. plus this weekend I am hoping to meet the author of a third and purchase a copy of their book..

Oh I know lol! You were right, just give it some more time I also elevated the aircell end like you suggested so that could've helped as well. I slept downstairs in the guest room where the bator is in case it did hatch then at 6:20 there was a pip, then I woke up about 8:30 & a yoyo sized piece was off with his whole beak visible...now it's resting! I'll post pics in a lil bit, gosh I'm just so excited!!!

YAY, looking good!

No, doesn't look like too much blood to me (with very limited experience). Here is a picture of what my second one left behind, and I was worried about the same thing.... and she turned out perfect! The second picture is my first one hatched and looks alot different.

the membrane where it's all bloody looking is what you need to send in for DNA testing if you are going to do that.. if you're giving him away with his shell make sure you don't touch the membrane and mark him so you will know which chick goes with which egg.. so the new owners can get him/her DNA tested if that's what they decide to do

also if you are going to do the DNA testing make sure the membrane gets to really dry out before you put it in a plastic bag.. otherwise it will go moldy on ya
