Anyone use a baby monitor to listen to their birds?

Try one of these and she'll really think you're psychotic! Comes with pan and tilt, sound and a free webpage so you can view it from anywhere in the world.

Once we lost 2 chickens to a mystery predator we put them out. You can tell when they are being watched by something by their noises. It's hard to go to sleep without seeing the light on the baby monitor now.

I use a baby monitor & I've put a walkie talkie out there too, lol. I keep it by the bed incase I hear something out by the coop, like coons

Just the sound of my voice (and my dogs barking) will scare them away.

I have a monitor in my coop, and it's saved my birds from pre-dawn predation more than once!

Thank heaven for those $17 Wallie-World specials!

I would be down a couple of hens at least, and nearly wrestled a raccoon for one, running out in my pjs when I heard her squawk! Creepy varmints!

Not nutty. Pragmatic and good planning!

I got the el-cheapo set that has a base and a monitor. It has 2 channels, and I have the monitor in the coop, plugged in, while the base is next to the bed, also plugged in. I have a battery in the base, as I've needed all of my outlets in my bedroom (laptop on BYC in bed!) occasionally, and this works well for me. I would like to have a second unit for my banty shanty, but it's not far from my bedroom and I'm ok without.

I think a baby monitor would have saved us a lot of heartache. A fox got into our coop and killed our small flock of three pet chickens. It's frustrating to think that while this was happening I was soundly sleeping only 100 ft away. If I had a monitor going, I would have heard the ruckus as he struggled to get in and probably the frantic sounds as the girls tried to get away. I might have been able to save at least 2 out of the 3 had I used a monitor.

With my new flock I am way more paranoid and protective of the new girls. Aside from re-enforcing the windows and general security, I've also started using a monitor and I put this out under the window in case the fiendish fox cares to try again....
