Anyone use/own a pellet gun (update: got one)

I checked Google and the first few reviews weren't particularly favorable. It's priced along with the Big Cat so my choice would probably be the Big Cat. Both Big Cat & Whisper come in .22 caliber models as well.

ahhggg... decisions.

We wanted a pellet gun to deter the neighbor's dogs, something we could shoot from the porch. Anything with too much power and range would put our horses in danger. Don't want to kill them or seriously hurt them, just enough to make them very sorry they came by. We tried the gamo, and one other break type air rifle. Almost impossible for me to break, and only a single shot. Used a little Daisy, not accurate enough. So now we have two air pistols byt he front door. One is CO2 cartridge, which I prefer. They are both quiet and accurate. Happily, the neighbor's dogs have not been by in the last month or so.

interesting kate

and how i agree mak!!

i am beginning to doubt the power of any air rifle except a real pricey and poweful one, to put down a coon or possum if needed, and not just make it angry an charge at me..............

maybe a n air rifle is NOT the thing, but a 22 in fact. But of course, if one can't hit a target, dont matter what you fire!!!

it is said a .17 can take a coyote (but weould have to be close and a dead on shot, otherwise...) a .22 airarm could too, some have gotten em right between the eyes and they drop right away..........

but i dont know how i could shoot a .22 LR into a live trap without either ruining the trap or making an awful mess, or...........

ugggghhh

Another option for those that live in areas where you can use firearms, but just dont want to disturb the neighbours.....
Use 22 shorts in a rifle if it will accept them. If you use the target shorts it isnt any louder than a pellet gun.

I use the Gamo Varmint hunter it comes with lasers and light and drops coons, rats and anything else under 100 lbs. Ive heard of peaple shooting deer with it before. I has the power of a 22. You can get it at any large outdoors store or online.

do you use the scope it came with or did you get another

how about the trigger--same question as above

what have you 'gotten' with it....?

Do some research on that gun and draw up your own conclusions. I've heard mixed reviews. Also, stating it has the power of a 22 is misleading. @ 1200 fps, it can match low end 22 ammo out of the barrel, but it's ballistics drop rapidly in comparison. Most 22 ammo is around 1600 fps, and has much better ballistics. In my opinion, if you're going to get a pellet gun that comes close to 22 fps, you'd be better off with a 22.
USA may have different regulations which may argue that point, but in Canada you need to jump through the same hoops to get a pellet gun that powerful as you do to get a 22. I would be interested to know if you do as well.
