Anyone use these nipple waterers?

Hey all I ordered some nipple waterers from Amazon for my flock and going to use them for my rabbits too. Here they are:

Didn't notice before I ordered them that they are 5/16" which is hard to find fittings for. Anyone ever used these and if so where did you get the fittings? Thanks! BTW I have looked at Grainger and other places and they don't have the fittings.

Hia, we use chicken nipples. I think they're great and the chickens took to them really quickly. You don't need fittings. They come with a little washer. If you drill a hole a little smaller than the nipple it will screw in (well into plastic anyway) really easy and fit snuggly without any fuss or fittings.

I've not seen those type of nipples before. I can't quite figure out how they are supposed to be set up and work...where does the chicken drink from? As far as fittings go, I'm not entirely sure what you mean...what are you trying to fit it to? PVC pipe? From the pictures, it looks like they are meant to be fit into vinyl tubing, I'm assuming tubing with an interior diameter of 5/16".

Reading the description and comments, it sounds like you should use 1/4" tubing... though I'd just take em down to Lowes and see what fits.


All of the poultry nipples seem to be looking for 5/16". Both the horizontal ones and cup ones I have say to drill 11/32" holes.

I ran a length of 1inch PVC pipe along one wall of my run and drilled holes every foot and then screwed these poultry nipples in. My chickens figured out how to use them within hours.
Like pdirt said earlier. The ones you got seem to be meant for vinyl tubing instead of PVC pipe. I would just be concerned that vinyl tubing wont last as long as PVC will.

If you don't want to worry about getting the drill size and making everything level, you can use pvc brackets that slide over the PVC and have a connector for the nipples. The work with nipples and cups and make the process a lot easier: http://tinyurl.com/q85z6qh

Mine are just like those but don't screw in, they push tight into a rubber grommet. Use any container you wish, big or small! It's been 4 years now without any problems & I use an aquarium heater in winter, the cheap one from wally world.

These things are awesome. The water stays fresh and clean and it lasts forever. I bought these nipples and made 4 of these coolers. Its the bomb! I made some adjustable shelves so I can move them up and down as the chickens get bigger. I have some down lower for my bantams and some up higher for the bigger girls......
