Hello, I have a chicken that has some yellow crusty spots on her wattles and comb. I have 6 other chickens and none of them have these spots, except one, that only has a very small part of the tip of her comb looking yellow. I live in Central NY and the weather for the past month or so has seen extreme cold temperatures, with wind chills -32 somedays. Is this frost bit or scabs from fighting, or something worse like dry fowl pox or favus?

That's just from light frostbite damage. The crust is from healing.

I'd lean more toward injury. Does she have any other scaly yellow places on her body, the skin beneath all of her feathers?

Every case of Frostbite I've ever had the tissue turned grey to dark and looked dead, not yellow and crusty.

If it wasn't so cold, I'd suggest an anti-fungal cream, but since it is cold, I think I'd paint on some Iodine which should dry fairly quickly and not lock in too much moisture.

She doesnt have any other crusty spots, anywhere. I have checked in here feathers, looking for mites, etc, her skin and feathers look clear.
Its about 35 F here, I have blue kote, anti fungal cream, anti bacterial cream, and anti microbial spray... do you think the antibiotic ointment would be ok?

Thank you so much! I will apply the iodine and when it gets warmer this week, I will put on the antifungal. I appreciate your help!

You don’t need to apply anything to it.
