Thank you, but after doing a lot of research on the internet, I've decided to buy from
ratproofchickenfeeder.net See http://chickenfeederreviews.com for reviews on many brands and types. The links are on the upper right of the page. Now there are many negative reviews about grandpasfeeders: "24% negative reviews is not a sign of a well made product and that is up from 13% negative reviews last year." Also: The biggest issue with the Grandpa feeder is the guillotine design" and "the product is not rat, mice, or squirrel proof at all. Look at these reviews posted on Amazon showing squirrels using the feeder, and 30 mice using the feeder, and the feeder leaks in big rains and the feed doesn’t flow without being pushed down daily."
The medium Rat Proof Feeder is much less expensive ($65) and is galvanized steel. Still, the shipping to my package forwarder in Miami will be expensive, and then plus the cost of getting the item to me in Panama. (I wouldn't know how to ship anything direct to Panama; I've always used a package forwarder that takes care of customs, etc.) But the cost with the grandpa feeder would be even more expensive because of the high cost of the feeder itself.
Re Amazon: I will NOT buy from them ever again unless there's no alternative. They always ship in over-sized boxes filled with air pockets. It does no good to complain. They don't care. They even removed from their web site the ability to rate the size of the shipping box. (My comments were always WAY TOO BIG.) If a lightweight item is in a large box, they charge for package dimensions. I've had to pay $15 for a one-pound item nestled in the corner of a huge box. Correctly packaged, it would have cost me $3.00. Therefore, "free shipping" to Miami means nothing to me.
Before I did all the research, I had thought to buy the grandpas. Their web site states that they are moving their warehouse, will probably be completed by February, but in the meantime, any orders will be shipped from Amazon's stock. I send an email 5 days ago explaining why I will not order from Amazon and asked them to keep me updated. So far not a single reply. Another black mark against grandpasfeeders.
Also, see on the ratproofchickenfeeder.net web site about problems (and extra expenses) that sellers have with Amazon.
Amazon is now the largest company IN THE WORLD. They don't need to care about customer service--for now anyway.
