I have six pullets who are starting to lay. Only three of them are laying now. One out of three of those just started laying less than a week ago. I don't think that she's going to be a good layer anyways. Two of those hen's has already proving that they are good layers. So, once they all start laying pretty good, I'm hoping to get enough eggs for my bread each day and maybe a couple extras.

Laying ability isn't much of a concern with me. I'm fine with birds that don't lay every day. I'm getting Saipans next spring.

Well, it's not really big to me either... But it helps out my family if the eggs come every day.

Hope your birds don't ended up making you have 9 dozen eggs within a week like mine.

Yep, Saipans. I read they crow less, but I don't think their crow is long.

Hey! That happened to me in my first winter with chickens! I didn't have enough space for all the eggs! 18 egg cartons was my best friend!

Yep, Saipans. I read they crow less, but I don't think their crow is long.

Oh, ok. I thought that they had the genetic makeup of a long crower. Well, either way, they're still exciting! Someday I want Malays. They're getting really rare, so I hope they stay around long enough to get some.

I originally wanted Malays, but they're too hard to find, & expensive. Last breeder I bought eggs from, 12 eggs, spent $75 total,
My dad let me borrow his credit card for the hatching eggs. It includes shipping. None started developing. I contacted the breeder, who promises to sent free replacements, or send free chicks as replacements. We made an agreement to send a invoice through email so I can pay the $12 shipping for the chicks with my debit, but never got it. So I kept trying to contact him, but he just seems to be ignoring my messages. I sent well over 50 messages, & he never replied.

I never got my replacements.

I did find another breeder, but his prices are outrageous. Can't remember the prices of eggs, or chicks at the moment though. He was a really nice guy.


The original breeder replaced other people's eggs with chicks, or more eggs, but he just completely ripped me off. Avoid Jeff.

That's too bad that the prices were outrageous. Whenever it comes to really rare birds, except high prices. The Ayem Ketawas has come to the USA, and last time I checked, for one straight run chick, it's $99!! Last time I checked, the Malays were on the most rare list. I'm concerned if some big hatchery doesn't get ahole of them, they might go extinct. But even if a hatchery gets them, the heritage lines will probably be bred out of them, and they might even loose their hight and be no different than a Shamo. It's just really sad. That's one of the reasons why I'd like to get them someday. I want to help save the breed. But, currently, I don't have a setup for a rare and expensive bird, and I don't know have the money.
