I’m at 0/6 😫. Molting plus I don’t light their coop. I’m in academia, so I think of it as their annual sabbatical.

I believe putting lights in the coop is wrong, as well as not good for the chicken's health. We get vacations from work, don't we? :old What about them?!

( This isn't directed at you, :) )

Ahhh makes sense :D
Tractor supply... Never know what you're getting... but there are chicks there....

When I was a newbie and got my first chicks from Tractor Supply, I bought six straight run! 🆘 ( :D ) I ended up with all pullets! :D

Haha yes! That’s exactly how I see it. Plus my weird girls have ALWAYS chosen to lay around noon. So for most of the winter the eggs would freeze before I got to them. I have no idea how this doesn’t happen to coop lighters. The lights make heat? They aren’t this far north?? 🤷🏼‍♀️

It gets cold here. I light my coop, and I can guarantee you that the lights don't do anything to keep eggs warm XD. I just use two LED bulbs, turn them on at about 6 am and turn them off at about 8 PM. My eggs haven't been freezing, and it's been in the teens. If I left the eggs out overnight, well that would be a different story.
