Anyone want to hatch with me? - Went in 01/16/14.

They are around day 14. I think it was just my over excited imagination. Blood rings only form if the embryo dies in the first week, before any tissue develops. If it doesn't look right compared to the others by lockdown I'd probably toss it. I also think that candle wax is a much better choice than duct tape. I think the fibers in the tape would be more likely to harbor bacteria. I think that if the chick has survived this much, she's gonna be a tough little fuzz but in no time!
That's what I was afraid of. I was waiting to see if it would form a blood ring, but since you informed me otherwise, I won't wait for that. It looks like it hasn't developed like the other 3 have. Maybe I will go ahead and perform the float test today rather than waiting until lockdown. I think that the little chick in the cracked egg was the one that was probably the best one for a cracked egg, if there was going to be one. She/he is the one that is the most developed compared to all of them- even before the fall. I was commenting to my husband about how much bigger and stronger this one seemed to be. I'm pretty excited for hatch day to meet the little fellers!
I think I'll be lucky if I hear real peeps from my eggs. I am moderately deaf so it's hard for me to hear things, and especially certain tones. It would be awesome if I can though!

If you're pretty sure the eggs are fertile and you want the new babies, you can just leave her be and she will do everything that comes naturally to her. Is she in the coop with your other birds? You can separate her if you want, just do it at night so she wont be too stressed. I find it easiest to candle broody's eggs at night too, mine doesn't fuss at me as much when I reach under her. Expect the eggs to hatch around the 5th or so, and have some chick starter ready. Momma hen does everything, she's pre-programmed to know what to do. :)

On day 12

. I just want to at least candle my eggs.

Got a question, my hen starting sitting on 7 eggs on January14 about 7pm is it 21 days for her too? I haven't candled afraid to disturb her. I incubated my flock last April so I'm not sure what to do with a broody, lol.

Your only on about day 15, right?
Yes of course it will be 21 days, give or take a day or so. Just sit on your hands an wait wait wait.lol.
You can if you want candle them but make sure on day 18 she doesn't get disturbed at all! The last 3 days she increases her humidity and has to keep everything still and at a good calm temp.

Edit: Spelling.

Thanks silverduck. She has her own place safe away from the rest. She's only had one rooster visit her for a month before she started sitting, I'm hoping he did the job. They are my best behavior of them all and hope to carry the trait on in the chicks

YEA! My blue bantam Faverolles are hatching!! I have 1 light one and a charcoal sortof color one...they aren't fluffed up yet. 1 more of those to go. I checked the last one and it is still moving around in the egg but no pips.
My next round are on day 13 ( I think, I keep forgetting to look ) I don't know how many are good. I can't see well enough through their eggs to tell. They are LF blue Faverolles.
