Anyone want to help us choose a few new chicks???

Sea chick I wonder if you should try getting some from a breeder in your area-then you could see what you get before hand(parent stock)- Do you have a local Poultry Club??

My daughter was asking about local breeders, but then we have the straight run problem. We can only have hens and I would rather avoid trying to find a home for a cockerel.....

I love cochin & brahmas!
your 1 daughter asked about cochin Brahma lays much better & their tmperment is the same!

next I vote for RIR, BR or BO

I went through a 4 EE's before I found 2 with an O.K. attitude!

My RIR's are the calmist, most well behaved birds and they are prolific layers. They are all around good birds and hey are also cold hardy.

Good luck, whatever you pick cannot be bad.

Seachick, have you done research on Salmon Favs?? I, too, am replacing a more hyper bird with, hopefully, a calmer more docile one. My d'uccle was getting picked on and she is such a sweet, submissive bantam. I want full size and was thinking of a Buff Opr....but NOW, I am finding out that a Salmon Fav is even more docile than a buff orp.

Did you decide to try a Salmon Fav? It sounds like they are really sweet and docile.

My speckled sussex are my favorite hens- I have 4 of them and they are the only ones who let me pick them up. They are very curious about everything, 2 of mine and my EE are the only ones who will come out of the run in the snow.

Aw, you guys are making this tough!! Just when we'd narrowed it down, now considering SS as well.... sigh, I need to move to where we can have more than 6 chickens, obviously!!!

Here's the list so far. I think we will order 4 and then keep only our favorite 2 out of the bunch:
2x EE
1x Salmon Faverolle
1x Welsummer

....or RIR?
....or SS?

Argh!!!!
