Anyone want to join me in an Ideal order this spring? (Central KY)

I'm excited several people want to order with me! As soon as they post the hatch dates we can get everything organized. I have to restrain myself and not order too much.

I get my chicks vaccinated for Mareks just because I know (from a previous bad experience) that there are people in the Richmond area who sell birds with Avian Leukosis, and it is easily transmitted through poop and even through eggs, so I take precaution in case we some how bring that disease home. (I don't bring in any birds from farms now, but better safe than sorry!) The Avian experts at UK told me the Mareks vaccine will help protect against it. A lot of people don't get the vaccines, it's really up to you.

Yes by all means then..let's do the vaccine thing. What needs to be done for that? I am a complete newbie at all of this so I'm sorry to be so clueless.

You just have to tell Ideal to vaccinate them, it only costs a few cents more per chick.

Andora I am going to look in the site and see what it was I wanted again...I was happy with the Cochin bantams I got last Spring, may get some Large fowl ones this time. Then Shelley can get her self blues. Give me a deadline so I know when to let you know.

Started the coop construction today. Basically a 3'x3' coop with a 5'x3' caged run. Plan on putting wheels on the back so it's easy to move around the yard and a gate so they can free range under supervision. Do you think 8'x5' total is sufficient for 4 birds or only 3?

Anybody heard from Andora? I can't figure out the Ideal dates or if they have been posted yet.

I just looked at the McMurray site and noticed that they sell sexed crested birds. Ideal only sells straight run. I've never ordered from McMurray before. Do you all prefer one or the other? I haven't looked to see what else McMurray has in stock...it does look like their chicks are more expensive though! The sexed crested birds are the only reason I would consider ordering from there, I've been really happy with the quality of my Ideal chicks. What do you all think?

Ideal still hasn't posted their hatch/shipping dates for Houdans. They emailed me and told me they would be up on January 10th!
