Those are so darling! Looks like you have an EE standing right up front of that last picture. I have a question. Do your babies eat that feed, at that size? I usually use the mash, it's a lot easier for them to swallow. Just asking, because if yours eat food that size, I am going looking, a lot less loss of food for sure.
Sorry, butting in here, been watching (stalking)

you guys, like I said in an earlier post, just hoping to get some to hatch by tonight, if not, I will be missing out.

Good luck to all..I am going to watch you all through the night, so if your noses start to itch...lol...that's because I'll be saying things out loud when I see cute pictures.

"EE"? The stripey one's a Barnevelder.

The feed is all different sizes, but you can't see it there. I've ground it up in a food processor so they can swallow it. No starter mash at our feed store that I have been able to see, only crumble (though I'm planning to look again - a new branch has opened closer to us a couple days ago).

We feed Turkey Starter Crumbles from Purina to all our chicks and they eat it well from the very beginning. All it takes is one chick to eat and they all start eating it. Never really thought about mash.

Aww, a Barnevelder! They are beautiful birds..they have the little chipmunk stripes like the EE's...sorry though.

I've had them, great birds.

On the feed, glad to hear it, plus someone else said they use the turkey feed? I am so going to just buy the crumbles from now on.

Not long now ChickenPeep!

Need help from the group:

Okay, so I came home to find the one chick still struggling to break free from its egg. It has been zipping for more than 24 hours and pipped over 48 hours ago. I decided to help the little guy. I only had one other egg that hadn't hatch (which I candled and it looks like it quit but I will leave it in there another day or so).

He was still chirping very loud but I could tell the membrane had begun to dry out and it was beginning to shrink wrap him. I only had to chip a very few pieces of the shell and moistened the membrane and he pushed himself right out. Yea!

But here is the not so good part. I know chicks struggle for a little while to get their legs under them but he keeps laying on his back legs straight out. Chirping loudly and seems healthy except he wobbles around but only on his back. Do you think it is because he has been struggling for so long and it is just going to take him longer or do you think there may be an issue?

Good Luck from me too, CrestedGirl! The rest of you have done a great job and have gotten through the nail biting. I have had fun reading about all the hatches so far and will be waiting for more.
