Anyone with Willow trees?

I love willows, too. I see I'm in good company on that.

I cut all mine down--these are not a lawn tree, every time there is any wind the lawn is littered with branches. You have a swamp, then it is a great tree. Once it leafs out it means spring is on the way.

Be careful where you plant them. DO NOT plant them near a well or septic, because their roots are like hair and they will travel up to 2 miles to find water. . .my dad had to use a long fork to pull wheelbarrow after wheelbarrow of roots out of our well when I was a kid, and they water always had a "taste" which we attributed to the roots. They are beautiful, but make sure you plant them far away from water sources or sewers.

I have a willow that is grafted from the tree that shadows Napolean's grave. I don't even remember why I have that particular willow or where I got it from. When I got it, it was a 'bare root', which my kids called a stick, and made fun of it for several years - 'Mom's stick'. Then one year they said, "Where did that tree in the front yard come from?" ha Now it's a beautiful tree.

If you could just dig a hole and toss it in, I would plant them far off. But I have to water the one I have now nearly everyday. Unless it's raining, I water it. Otherwise it turns yellow and looses a ton of leaves, always bounces back, but still. I wuv willows!
Still waiting on a pm from someone who can send me cuttings. I'm good for shipping, better than $50-100 farm trees...
