Check your local listings in community centers sometimes they have classes for a small fee. You really have to know what you're doing when you're firing, or you'll melt your work if you get it too hot. Like lava.
Yeah I have worked with clay a few times. We were actually working on a project when I left the school. I live in the middle of nowhere now, but I will try.
My mother wants to buy a kiln, I think they're pretty expensive though.

Yeah they range in price. The more bells and whistles the more costly there. You can get a basic model that doesn't have an automatic shut-off, a lot cheaper. The bad thing is, you'll have to manually watch the cone for when it starts the slack when it reaches the right temperature or it will over fire, ruining the kiln and your work. My professor showed us one that had been over fired. Tragic to say the least. It was an industrial kiln. Thousands of dollars in damage.
 
Wow, yeah - It seems like investing in a good kiln is worth the money, especially if you plan on using it a lot.
