I've never used charcoal for drawing before, but I went out on a limb and bought a pack of charcoal pencils yesterday.

Interesting. Did you ever get any Derwent pencils? I've been thinking of upgrading to some of them. I'm not really into acrylics either, or painting in general. I do it occasionally, but it's not my preferred medium.

Here's my grand collection of charcoal pencils (I also have a set of graphite sketch pencils, but they weren't from sketchbox.) I have one Derwent pencil, and it's a charcoal wash, so it's smoother than the normal charcoal ones and if water is applied, it's like watercolor pencils. It's one of my favorites though.

Very nice collection! I have two similar to your charcoal wash, I believe they're called "Sketch & Wash", but they're like a watercolor graphite pencil. What brand(s) would you recommend for good quality graphite pencils?

I think that the Cretacolor one (not in the box, but the singular one) says Sketch & Wash on the other side.
And the thick dark one in the middle is a wash as well.

All of these seem like really nice quality. But, like I said, graphite isn't my fave thing
