Here is a pic of a full moon I photographed a few years ago. If you zoom in you can see there's not much detail....

And here's a quarter moon shot with the same camera/lens. The shadows in the craters add a lot more detail.....

I've heard that you lose detail with the full moon, though I didn't realize how much! Maybe I'll try getting a picture tonight!

You need a telephoto lens. The longer the better but not as big as you might think. I use the same lens I use for photographing wildlife. It is a 400mm lens. I also have a 1.4x teleconverter that I occasionally use which turns my 400mm lens into a 560mm lens (I used it in those pics). I think Alyssa-Bee is using a 300mm lens on her moon pics....

Yup, I've got a 300 mm lens that I used to take the moon pictures.

I want a tripod. I try to balance the camera on the wall when I want turn down the shutter speed, but I can never seem to get the right angle without leaning against something wobbly!

I love photography! It's been a recent hobby of mine, and though I'm still learning a lot and I'm not the best, it's been lots of fun!
Here's a few from this weekend that I've taken.
