I have a container garden on my back porch. I have been trying to keep it as chemical-free as possible, using soapy water, cayenne, and checking daily for insects. So two days ago, I noticed my pea plants were completely infested with aphids. I picked off as many as I could, hosed it down, and added Permethrin. I couldn't do much else, as we have been having a deluge of rain for days now, and it washed off most of the permethrin. Today is the first sunny day all week. Any ideas on how to get rid of them? There are thousands!

You could buy some beneficial bugs... like ladybugs or praying mantis. They eat aphids. I believe Gurney's sells both.
I have tried that in the past. They never stay, even when we built a ladybug house. I would love to keep lady bugs in the garden.

I have hosed them off my fruit trees with a strong blast with the hose. But, I'm guessing your potted plants are too tender for that.
Yep, the pea plants have pods of a good size already also, so I hate to use any kind of poison on them. I will keep with the soapy water and pick off any many as I can, I guess
