APOC 139 instead of Blackjack 57?

Either should work, as long as they're cured before chickens get access. I just used gloss latex paint for my setup, previous coop that's decades old had zero treatment on the wood. I'd only use the elastomeric coating if I was planning to have moisture directly against it, such as a moist deep litter system that composts in place, or for protecting regular lumber from ground contact moisture, roofing situations, etc.

I used APOC 243, a white elastomeric roof coating. I'd already bought it for the roof, so I used it on the floor and the first foot of the wall as well. They've been in the coop for 6 weeks now, and seems to be working well.

There are situations when one does not plan to have direct water contact but it happens. Early in my chicken career I kept water inside the run; it inevitably spills, in winter frozen lumps results.

I used BJ57 when I built my coop. Almost six years it is still intact and essentially waterproof. In addition:
  • it is easily spot renewed as needed.
  • The black colour and texture accepts crap&corruption with grace.
I am not aware of any negative consequences arising from its use. I expect to get 10 years before something will motivate me to redo it.

You have not provided any explanation why you would not use an elastomeric coating. Are there negatives that I am not aware of?
