Does anyone give their chickens apple cider vinegar? If so, how much do you put into their water?

I put in a "glug" in a gallon of water every other day. Use organic like Braggs ACV. Reasonable price when bought by the gallon.

Hi, I use 1-2 Tablespoons per gallon of water. I find that my chickens drink it more than the plain stuff. It also helps to keep the Plastic waterers cleaner. Do not use in metal waterers. The acid leaches metals into the water which isn't good for our babies. You can also use it yourself to keep your own gut flora healthy.

Good thinking on the metal waterers, that never even occurred to me. I've been just eyeballing it but was thinking perhaps I was using too much or not enough, good to know I'm in the ballpark. Thank you!

If you put in too much they just won't drink it. They won't overdose on ACV. Mine drink from a small stock tank near their coop except a couple months in winter so I dump in containers until I think it's enough. I do the same with the horses. Usually somewhere around 1 container for the small tank and 2 for the large horse tank. Let's see... I'm using about half gallon containers of vinegar which is 128 tablespoons in to a 60gallon tank and twice that in to a 100gallon tank so I'm adding about 2-2.5tablespoons per gallon.

I've heard that before and it really bothers me. Is it that important to put ACV in their water? Why risk having them get dehydrated from not drinking enough (laying eggs takes a lot of water), or some kind of chemical reaction with the watering container. I firmly believe that putting anything in the water that MIGHT cause them to not like it is not a good idea. Ponds and water in nature do not have ACV in them, and I would be ticked if someone made me drink that all the time.

We feel the same, it's not good to make them drink anything all the time. We give ours ACV about once or twice a week, and Aviacharge in the water about twice a week; in the cold months; the rest of the time they get plain water, unless they are sick or under stress. They do seem to like the acv at 1 tbsp per gallon.

If ya'll have KROGER food stores there they have an organic food section. I get mine there it has the "mother" in it. I give it to my chickens and I drink it also.
