Today i went for a snack and grabbed some applesauce out of the fridge. I ate a bit of it, and suddenly felt surpriingly cool. So, i thought why not try it out on the chickens, and they seemed to love it, they gobbled it all up, and didn't pant as much. Can it be used to cool chcikens down??? It seemed to work on mine. Oh, and i gave them unsweetened applesauce so they don't get diarea.

Mine get applesauce about every other day. I mix their crumbles with it. I started doing that to stimulate my rooster's appetite so he'd eat a bit more. I usually use the unsweetened, but have used the cinnamon, too. I don't know if it cools them down, but it ended up spoiling them. To cool them down, we have chilled watermelon, seedless. And, water with just a bit of fruit punch gatorade. They are six yrs old and I have done this since they were babes.

Mine love applesauce, actually better than sliced apples. I mixed in Cheerios the other day and they were in heaven. On the really hot days here, I stick melon halves in the freezer and then pull them out. They are a huge hit with the girls.
