Approaching week 25...NO EGGS?????????????????????

i have 4 BO, 1 GLW, 1 BR, and 1 Light Brahma, i got my first egg at 23 weeks. i think the bigger birds mature later, now i get 4-7 eggs a day. I had one day with no eggs last week. i think it is because of the days getting shorter.

well i hope i see one soon. Im dieing to do the "fresh brown egg" comparison...to the "Store bought white" egg. I've never had a fresh brown egg from a hen before...EVER!! Dunno if i should eat it strait...or scramble it??? lol

Yes my nest boxes are completly dark im guessing at night time. The only holes available for sunlight to get in are around the top of the coop. Should i cut squares out of the hinged top board that comes down on a slant to open and close the nest boxes so there will be light??? I could take hardwear cloth and cover the new holes so they can't jump out. But then i think about winter time and snow and ice getting in the next boxes?? Shoot!!! i don't know what to do on that one.

When they free range its around 5 pm. They don't seem to run off to a special hideing place...least not that i have seen. But i can look more closely next time to be sure. Thanks for all the info!! Keep'em coming.

Yes as others stated dark is good for the nest boxes.

We did the taste test. We ate ours over easy and the store bought one was nasty after you tasted the fresh egg. We will not eat store bought eggs here. I would rather have no eggs at all. I still think you will get some eggs soon.

We did both taste tests. I think you can tell the biggest difference in the over easy eggs. The white and yolk are thicker in the fresh egg. I think the white tastes dramatically different. I used to not like fried eggs because I thought the white was gross. Now it is my favorite part.

Good Luck with yours!!

Honestly, you won't be able to tell the difference between a fresh brown egg and a fresh white egg, assuming both hens are fed the same diet etc. I just like the looks of the brown eggs best since that's what I grew up with.

The big payoff is home-grown vx store-bought.

I agree its not the egg color its the home grown factor that makes them so yummy.

really?? now i thought they would actually taste better "over store bought" because i can control what they eat. Garlic cloves, tomatoes, rosemary sprigs, bread, and apple slices are feed to them as treats

I'm not so sure on the garlic cloves, that seems like one of those foods that can affect egg taste and maybe not in a good way.
