I didn't see the point of an open window unless she was actively frying her hair or something. She only has 1 window in the room available to open so I can't wait to hear her excuse when she gets home muahahahahah

Basic Training Drill Instructor Boot Camp????? INSPECTION TIME!!!! Who is smoking and WHAT!!! They were cold, wanted to smoke, cranked the heaters....

It is sort of funny but that is how YOU can lose your entire house. This is serious and I think some extra work to pay off the extra usage needs to happen. I am thinking of scrubbing the toilet till it sparkles and dumping every drawer in their rooms to see where the "stash" is...is in order. Dishes for the remainder of the week and OF COURSE chicken coops!! that was a given.

I want the option ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!

Well, I think it's at least half your responsibility to make sure they catch the bus. As far as the window, I would definitely suspect someone was smoking something up there.
Why do they miss the bus? If it's because they don't get up in time, I'd make them go to bed earlier. If it's because they dilly dally, I would be on them from the time they get up, till they're ready to go.

If it wasn't Shay's room I would have thought smoking as well, but she is so anti smoking, anti drinking, doesn't like to take ANY medications, the only thing she does have a vice for is for mountain dew. Shes the one who turned in her own sibs when they were screwing up. She's my little goodie two shoes airheaded daughter tho

No I agree with you there. I am usually up but I've been doing a bit of remote access IT work during the late night hours. So my sleep schedule is screwy. But I never had to crack the whip on my high schoolers before. Maybe I need to make it a point tho of being up at 5 when they start rolling out of their bunks.

We were having the same bus issue here. We are lucky enough that our daughter belongs to the civil air patrol and absolutly loves it. She was told every morning she misses the bus it is another meeting she misses. That worked. Also I won't write her any excuses so if she misses any classes she unable to make up the work.

Plane and simple, You have to hit them where it hurts!! Find her joy in life and rip it away next time with no warrning. That will show them who's in controll, because right now they are.

I voted for extra chores.

Sometimes they don't even want to use the phone, so that won't always work. And its hard to take tv away when others in the house might be watching it, they would have to stay in their rooms to avoid watching something. Total grounding is overkill, specially as the parent is supposed to be the one making sure their kids do what they are supposed to.

Granted you are trying to teach them responsibility, but they are still kids, and learning. If they were totally responsible for all their actions, they would be adults. Cause we all know parents/adults never oversleep or make mistakes...yeah right.

Oh and on the window issue, I don't know, my teenagers always have their windows open, claiming they are hot at night (and I know my kids aren't smoking anything). We don't have thermostats in each room though. Could be that running around getting ready, blow dryers, changing clothes, etc makes them too hot and they don't think to turn the therm. down? Opening one window won't take the smell of anything away unless there is a hurricane going on outside and blowing in the window. You would know something was up the minute you walked in the room.
