I looked up my property through the county assessor. I have about 1/5th of an acre. My house is 24 x 35 ft--standard ranch with detached garage. Not that big but enough for 8 hens. So without knowing how big your house is, I still think that 3900 sq ft should be big enough for 6 hens.

So these yahoos can dictate how many chickens you can own, based on how much land you own? How much land do you have to own to be eligible to vote in these towns? To own a second vehicle? To marry and have children? Gee, I'm proud to live in rural America, where dictatorships have not yet encroached!

When I wanted chickens, I asked NO ONE. When I wanted to build a house, I asked NO ONE....I just started building. When I wanted to have a front porch with no rail around it, I asked NO ONE. When I want to add on to my house, I'll ask....that's right...NO ONE!!!

I saw a TV show on low income housing in Omaha where a person was raising chickens in their bathtub. Rules exist for a reason...

No, they are free. I knew they issue them 1/1 -12/31. No problem, health dept is only 3 miles from my house.

Even though my neighbors of cool with me having chickens, I do have an old PIA couple across the street (whose daughter works for the city) and I don't really trust them. Knowing I now have a permit in hand, I can say to them, the proverbial...."NEENER, NEENER"!
