Approximately when do bantam cochins start laying eggs?

I love my bantam cochins. They make me smile every time I go out into the barn. I don't know which color is my favorite. They are so sweet. And yes the roosters are feisty.. the most feisty is my partridge roo.. when he was young he would fly up just to nip at us.. it never hurt and it became an ongoing family joke.. he just loved us so much he wanted to get a bite of us.. LOL.. so he has a home forever.. back in the summer when I would go to the barn in my flip flops all the little stinkers would peck at my toes and it was just so cute!!

Anyways.. I could go on and on… I think one day soon I will have to get some standard cochins.. just because..

Mine are right around 4 months old now.. and I hope they lay.. but I don't care.. I am just happy to have them as pets :)

My 15 year old daughter just got a pair of bantam black Cochins this past Saturday. She's wanted some since we went to the Kentucky State Fair back in August. We LOVE them!! They were hatched in September 2013 so we are hoping to see some cute lil eggs soon! The roo is soooo vocal compared to the pullet...lol! We get the biggest kick out of him and his chirps, squawks, and peeps...he hasn't crowed yet, but I'm guessing that will come soon enough. He will have a crowing battle with our French Blue Copper Maran Roo...it will b hilarious I'm sure!

Hi, I just found this post, I know its old, but I just got some cochin bantam chicks and wondered if / when yours started laying? The tiny babies are so precious. They just hatched so we have quite a while, but just curious!

I have bantam Blue Cochins that are four months old. They haven't laid eggs yet. From the comments in this thread, it seems that Cochins begin to lay eggs at an older age than other chickens. I'm waiting… and am just enjoying their beauty!

For the Cochin bantam owners out there that have hens that are 6 months or older and still aren't laying, give them laying crumbles, egg shells/oyster shells. Give them also a diet rich in protein, and vegetables(greens). This will get them laying. It would also help if u give them an area to free range. Confinement in a run,or in a lawn tractor does not always make for a happy chicken. Let them stretch their legs during the day,and do what's natural. Makes for a happy chicken. Just give them ample areas for shade and protection from the sky(winged predators). They will start laying in a couple of days.

We have a pair of bantam cochins, black. They are about 10 months old and just started laying. Every chicken is different, so they lay in their own time. We find that the 20 to 22 week theory is just that. We have silkies that have laid earlier than what is said and other breeds that have laid later. Feed them all the correct feed for a good diet and they will produce.

My white bante cochin and black bante cochin hens started laying at the age of 16 to 18 weeks and kept laying almost everyday until they were about 2.5 years old

Great mothers and it's the funniest thing when you watch them run

Also where you live can really affect when they lay, I live in Florida so it's like spring all year round which gets my hens laying a lot earlier
