April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

still waiting, we've hit 20 week, so I know they're just around the corner.

doesn't make the wait any easier.

Um I'd like to join this group!!

My 7 hens came into my life April 29th at 2 days old. I bought some Oyster Calcium & straw yesterday for the nest boxes. 20 weeks will be next week for me.

The only one who looks ready to lay is my Rhode Island Red, Scarlet:

followed by my Golden Comet, Gwen:

The buff orp, Demon Peep, looks the least likely.

The BR's and Auracana, and Partridge Rock are somewhere in between

Laura you have some beautiful birds!! I hope they start laying soon. We have approx. 19 hens and only 1 egg a day. A few days ago I got 2 but not in a couple days. I swear, 1 a day is just a teaser!!

Laura: Your barred rock looks about the same as mine. And your partridge rock is gorgeous! In fact, all your birds are pretty! Your RIR and my RIR are about the same age, but mine has almost no comb, has no wattles, and has only a moderately maroon face. I'm sure she'll catch up soon. SHE actually squatted and squawked and was kicking around in the nesting material yesterday, and she doesn't look mature enough to lay at all (even though she's the right age). Chickens are like us, I guess... every one is different.

I hope everybody starts getting some eggs soon! My birthday's day after tomorrow and I'm hoping for a small, oval, hard-shelled birthday present.

They are really looking like they are starting to lay any moment. Really nice red combs !!!!!!
I hate to brag but I already got two double-yolkers. Both from one, I don't know if it was the same, of my Barred Rocks !!!! So exciting !!!!!
I only have one hen, I suspect it is always the same, that lays a really soft shell egg off the roost onto the poop board where it of course breaks. But even in a nesting box I think it wouldn't make it since there is not much of a shell, just a gummy something. All the others lay nice strong shells. I have them on Flock Raiser with oyster shell on the side but I think I will grab a sack of layer pellets this afternoon and mix it in with the Flock Raiser.
Since I can't really tell my Australorps and Barred Rocks apart, I don't know how many are laying but I guess about 5 or 6. Got 4 eggs the other day. And they started laying last Saturday (19 weeks,5 days).
I am so proud of my girls !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, tell me why she hasn't laid an egg yet--aside from the fact that she doesn't want to.

She is one of the "golden comets" I bought back in midApril. Her 3 sisters are about as far along but she is, by far, the readiness looking. Her comb is even flopped over, for goodness sake.

Woodmort, I have no idea. But I will say that I totally believed that my BR would have been the first one to lay. She had the biggest reddish comb and was pretty much first to do everything. But, no. She was the last.
