April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

I have 3 18week olds and 2 14 week olds. I feed Flock Raiser and free choice oyster shell/crushed eggshell. The (now 2!) layers take the shell as they need it. Found the 2nd layer's 1st egg this am!!! I think it is the RIR, it is a very light brown, much lighter than the GSL's eggs!

Any new egg layers?

I'm so bummed....I'm on a trip for work all week and don't get to be home with my girls so I'm living vicariously through all of you!

Did anyone's April babies start laying this week?

We are still waiting for ours to start. I don't even see the signs that they are close. No squatting or egg song and combs are a bit brighter now, but still not red. We started giving them oyster shell this week and they've been eating layer feed for a couple of weeks now, along with many kitchen scraps and BOSS. They move around the fake eggs in the nest boxes now, but I haven't caught anyone in there checking them out. I think it will be late August or even September before we see our first egg:(

Mine have been checking out the next box. Today one went back into the coop and they all followed and stood around while she went in, sat down for a minute and then got up and left. 19 weeks and counting down...hope I get an egg before they do a major moult!

I've got late April, Early May pullets. The wait is killing me. I always tell them they're a bunch of free loaders

We had our first 3 egg day yesterday! That means we have at least one new layer. I'm guessing the Black Australorp, it was small and kind of roundish. So of the 14 hens born April 5 at least 3 are laying. One BA, one EE and one BR. Waiting waiting waiting for a colored egg! COme on blue!

My BCM pullets are on the pol. They were hatched last March 07, 2010. I'm still waiting for those first dark brown eggs to be laid.

Just saw this thread.
All of mine were hatched April 12. Three of the Aussies and 4 of the barred Rocks have really red combs and Wattles and some of them squat when I try to pet them. Since we have a large property (10 acres), parts of it wooded with lots of underbrush where they prefer to hang out I put them in "partial lock down". Before they where free ranging all day but I am just afraid that they will start laying in the "woods". So they are locked up in their run which is plenty large, 20x30 until 4 pm and then I let them out to free range. So far neither of them even have checked out the nesting boxes. I had them covered up until the chicks where 16 weeks so they wouldn't sleep in them. Now I am worried that they don't now what to do with the nesting boxes. The wait is killing me. I WANT EGGS !!! I REFUSE TO BUY ANY MORE EGGS AT THE STORE !!!!!! Since they are squatting I really hope it will happen this or next week. PLEASE, I CAN'T STAND IT ANY LONGER !!!!!
