April 2010 Pullets- wanna wait with me?

Hi,

ours hatched April.6.2010... still not laying

They are black and red sexlinks. The waits killing me!

<sigh> We are still waiting on our April 24th pullets. Most of them have bright red combs/wattles but no sign of eggs from them yet. Each morning I am hopeful as 3 of them remain in the coop after the door has opened and the other girls have gone to the yard.

Each morning those 3 dig themselves little nests in the shavings and they hang out together ... perhaps I should be looking for signs that they've been knitting since they sure aren't laying!

They stay in the coop for about 1/2 an hour before making their way out to the yard. We do have a big space for them outside but I haven't found any evidence of them making nests out there.

Back to waiting ...

I went out of town for 5 days last week, and I was afraid I would get my first egg while I was gone. I was right! My DH called me on Wednesday and said he found an egg in the garage! I was soooo irritated! He said it was about the size of a golf ball. He hasn't found any more, yet...so I am still waiting for the thrill of finding an egg! I have 2 RIR's that look like they should lay right now! Big red combs, face, and wattles and kinda doing the squat thing, the other 4 are at varying stages of maturity. My Buff O's are nowhere near as mature looking! Only 2 of them have even started growing combs/wattles...don't know why they are so far behind the RIR's, they are all the same age. Oh well,

I can't believe we are still waiting, but we are. One 22 week old BLRW sang the egg song almost a week ago, and another 22 week old unknown breed started squatting on Friday. We were so sure we would get eggs over the weekend, but NOOOOOO! They want to drive me crazy!

SO SHOCKED!!! my silkie hen started acting up and making these odd egg noises. so i let her into one of the houses and she laid an egg!!! she just turned 5 months on the 4th!!!!

Finally, I can leave this thread--got my first one today.

1 down (probably one of the red sex links) and 9 to go. Then next month the 26 Black Stars should start the deluge.
