April 2017 chicks, who will lay first contest...

I've got 12 hatched between March 26 and April 2, so I don't think I can officially "play" except for maybe the last two born on the 1st and 2nd.

* 1 buff orpington, 2 well summers, 2 bantam barred rocks, 1 bantam delaware, 2 bantam OEGB, 2 bantam cochins hatched approximately March 26 (just following along)
* 1 Aquila 4/1/17
* 1 well summer 4/2/17

I think my white legion will be first of my ladies. I have chicks I introduced recently that are just 4 weeks old. She gathers them around her as if they are hers before she's even laid her first eggs! She does get overwhelmed by them though. There are 52 chicks and she looks delighted and confused when they are all feeding lol

I will only be keeping a few out of the cackle hatchery surprise box, but it's been a lot of fun.

Is it normal for a pullet to get brood so early? 14 weeks.

ETA This should have said white leghorn but with the swarm of chicks legion might be more appropriate lol

I think my brown leghorn will be my first layer. We shall see...

I am working on extending my wifi network, i plan on a nest box cam so i can see whos laying:)
When they lay of course...

I am guessing i am two weeks out at least for either the sex link or white or brown leghorn

I believe you got your chicks a week before mine, so I'm guessing your leghorn may be first.

Today. One of our silly pullets. She had taken a dust bath and boy o boy was she full of nasty lol! She got up and started walkin in a waddly squat... mind you her face is nowhere near red yet. We watched her a bit to see if she would shake but newp! So we go up to her and she squats and waddle walks again. So we pick her up thinkin somethin wrong with her. Oh no no no... this lil turd had MUD CAKED under her wings. MUD! So we laugh put her down and what does she do in appreciation for us thinkin somethin was wrong and checkin on her.... shakes this huge fluff of nasty all over us. Eesh! Turd bird!
