April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

No, 2 buff Orpingtons. One of my Swedish Flower hens sometimes acts like she is going broody but the longest she ever sat for was 2 days. Maybe she will someday?
Hatch day for my broodies today but no sign of chicks yet. I’ll check later.

Mine won't brood either, they lay and run off like they think there missing out on something. It's kinda funny to watch. But definitely laying on a regular schedule.

I have my first hatch! Went from a pip then I had a 30 min meeting and came out to this

I have 4 SF hens that are almost a year old and most days I get 4 eggs. Glad yours are laying well too!

2 of the 4 eggs under the two broody hens are pipped.
And today my maran eggs for the may hatch a long arrived.

Lockdown early morning tomorrow for my duck eggs. I’ll be candling tonight but I’m pretty sure all will be going into lockdown. Call it a feeling or just call it everything’s black sooo I dunno what’s happening in there!

I also have 3 BYM chicken eggs my kids found at a friends place they were told to bring home & incubate. Those will be getting candled tonight to see if anything’s happening in them. They will be day 5 tomorrow.

Day 20 and I have my first pips! First time incubating so I'm beyond excited! Here is a pic of a couple of them, is that normally the spot pips begin at?

Anywhere in the air cell is where they should pip. Sometimes they pip not in the air cell, but I’ve had many that still came out perfectly fine when that happens.

Question. Mine go into lockdown on the 15th. The tray is 1/2" hardware cloth wire but I can tilt a little bit. Should I try aim the pointy end a little downward (assuming all air cells are on the round end) for lockdown or does it matter?

No you can just leave them on their side. I shut off my turner and let them hatch in the turner. I spray the turner with rubbing alcohol and water solution after the hatch it done, it cleans it nicely.

Positive about Covid... I’m always home so I’ll never miss a hatch not sure how my adopted dog is going to like the little peeps though. It makes my older beagle insane, but she’s a retired hunting dog.

ok I don't have a turner yet, was planning to make one. I've been hand turning this whole time. Had to constantly remind myself to turn them, pretty soon I'll have to remind myself NOT to turn them lol
