April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
ok I don't have a turner yet, was planning to make one. I've been hand turning this whole time. Had to constantly remind myself to turn them, pretty soon I'll have to remind myself NOT to turn them lol 😅
I tried hand turning twice with 42+ eggs and I never did it again. I had the turners at the time, but the duck eggs were too heavy for the turner. I refuse to hatch duck eggs this year. All they do is make my incubators nasty and I have to soak them for hours. Duck eggs are a messy egg to hatch. Chicken and quail are definitely my preferred eggs to incubate.

Up to 6 hatched now! Exciting!

Well I candle as I said I was going too..... talk about eventful!

The 3 BYM Chicken eggs look good for day 5.

I took all my duck eggs out in cartons to take them to my closet (darkest room). While in there I could hear pecking & peeping. Turns out 3/4 of my hatch are internally pipped. Sweet deal I was excited. Then I grab an egg to candle & felt something.... the little bugger is beak out!!!! WTH?! It’s only the night of day 24 😱

So I rushed it back into the incubator after vaselining the exposed pip around the beak. Cranked up the humidity & I guess I’ll wait 24-48 hours or more as ducks are famous for taking their sweet sweet time.

I don’t get it...I lowered the temp on this hatch as my chicken were a day early. I calibrated the thermometer I added inside. It’s showing the 99.5 temp. The internal thermometer is a degree off. I collect eggs daily & my ducks are the farthest thing from broody. 🤷‍♀️
