April 2021 Hatch - A - Long

Pics
Beautiful chicks & ducks everyone! My 2 chicks are doing ok but one seems to have a weird form of spraddle leg. This is the one that I think was malpositioned in the egg. It can stand and walk a bit, but one of its legs seems to be behind the other leg, like it’s doing front/back splits. I put vitamins in the water and I’ll try splinting it like I would for regular spraddle leg. Anyone seen this before?

I just put some chicken eggs into lockdown last night. Hopefully I will have some lavender fibro EEs by the 21st. I am super nervous because every one I have talked to has been having a lot of late deaths during lockdown.

also due this week are some East Indies. Hopefully I will get a decent hatch as this is my last attempt at them

How this day started (1am-ish) with 3 external pips.

And how it's going:

I work nights so I was naturally up most of the night but observed very little progress on the eggs from 1am to 10am when I just gave up on sleep. At 1pm they cheeped really loud to let us know they'd arrived.

The other 4 eggs have not pipped but today is day 20... Kind of wondering how long I should leave the chicks in the incubator with the unhatched eggs cause they're knocking them around a little bit...

You can take the chicks out when they are all fluffed up. Ok for them to knock the other eggs around. You can quickly remove the chicks and set the other eggs upright if needed. 😊

You can remove them as soon as they are dry and fluffy.

I have not. Maybe dislocated hip? I would post a separate thread under "emergencies". Hope the little one recovers. 😊
