April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
One of the reasons I was going to quit hatching was I was afraid it might get in the way of travel, but we are not going to travel for a while, so I have eggs in again...

The little chick did die. :hit

Good news though. I had a guy that wanted a rooster. He got one of my 3 month old roosters, (A steel egger/EE) Dark gray very handsome.

I did lose 3 to ravens Recently.
Those greens 😍
Sorry to hear about your chick 😢

Someone came for a rooster today!

The little blue chick has a wonky foot. I am not going to hobble it, She can stand on it, and it seems not as bad.

I am going to name her "Hippy chick" look at her legs! She is a blue maran.

Sorry about your little chick. You are so right about it feeling loved while it was here. ❤️

And sorry about the ravens taking some. 😲

We are on Day 22 with only one egg remaining (we set 4 eggs under Silkie hen and she quit her job, so we incubated the last 3, one was infertile and 2 died early on). Mom is a Splash Silkie and dad is a GLWyandotte. I'm wondering how long to wait before assist? Anyone successfully breed Silkie hen with Wyandotte roo? This is way too stressful for first hatch and only one egg!

Does it have a pip? How long has it been pipped? I would usually wait at least 24 hours after the pip before I assist.

I'd recommend reading this article - Guide to Assisted Hatching for All Poultry.
