April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Also, my second hen with 6 eggs, all have sounds whether its kicking/pecking or chirping, and 1 pip, day 19. :celebrate
3 are out and the 3 have pipped, except i gave them to the hen with turkey eggs, and gave the turkey eggs to a hen who went broody yesterday, felt like that'd be better as the turkey eggs still have another 2 weeks, day 14 today. Was worried the hen would quit as originally she had already been week in, meaning if she had stayed it would have been 5 weeks she had sat on eggs, would've felt bad for her.

IT FINALLY HAPPENED!!!

Woke up to loud chirping, never moved out of bed so fast!

The wrong-ender still hadn't managed to get out of the egg, so I carefully assisted. Keeping my fingers crossed that Ponyboy makes it! That's not him in the pic, although he looks similar.

More eggs pipped, I'm going to be getting my exercise sitting up and back down and walking the several step to the washroom to check on them, lol!

Two down, ten more to go!
Oh yaay! I know you are relived to see those fluffers after all y’all went through!

Yesterday I took my chicks that are almost 2 weeks and put them in a private coop with heat lamp zip-tied and not going anywhere. At night though I gathered them and put them under a frizzle hen who is 4 was not broody, but wasn't laying eggs any how. This morning I took them away and put them back in there pen. The hen was fine with them, but I usually just bond them in the evenings a few days, to get a routine going, since the chicks were older.

My incubating eggs are fine, they are on day 10? I am dry hatching, but I did put in some warm distilled water in the troughs being careful not to get any on eggs, and not filling so much it over flows. That is all they will get till lock down.

Worried about little Ponyboy, the assisted hatch. He's not very strong. I mixed some Stress Ade + (only stuff the farm store had, but it's a vitamin and electrolyte mix) and gave him some. I figure he's probably dehydrated after that rough hatch.
Poor thing, I hope he does ok. I had a couple like that last year and they just needed a bit longer than the others to build up strength. I'm sure the vitamins and electrolytes will help. Some egg yolk would be ideal as well.

He's already doing better, thank you! :) The boost helped him a lot. I figured he was really exhausted, it was a rough experience, to be sure!

Several more pipped eggs, no one has dared crawl out yet, though...

the mama of this chick inherited feathered legs, and neither of her parents have feathered legs, she is a cross between a rir/golden sebright hen and a blr wyandotte (Possibly a splash laced red instead) rooster, so why are they feathered?
(Not sure if you can see her grey feathers here)

this chick is that hen and a cuckoo maran/sebright/legbar/rir rooster (Yes, definitely barnyard mixed, haha)
Now notice how none of those breeds have feathered legs? Now look at this chick, inherited the feathered legs anyways 🤔.

Someone had a midnight visitor? :lau

Lost one. :( No, not Ponyboy, but one that had pipped last night.

I noticed the pip hadn't gotten any bigger and took the egg out. No sound from inside. I carefully peeled back the membrane and shell, gently poked the little one. No movement.

Took the chick out of the egg. Yolk absorbed. Fully formed, no defects. WHY did it die??!
