April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
I have an update on my April eggs.
I’m down to five out of seven shipped Opal Legbar eggs.
I have one very early blood ring and a lightbulb. I knew there was a risk with shipped eggs, but they’re all five horribly saddled, and I’m not getting my hopes up.
As for my five eggs, one was a lightbulb, and the other four look great. I’m excited because half of those are out of my game hens who are practically zero maintenance, tick eaters, and nest in the trees and my beautiful long-tailed black rooster who I hope pass on his long-tailed genes. I hatched out quite a few of their babies in March and am thrilled with how they are looking.

I’ve been having serious issues with keeping the temp up in my incubator. My thermometer is accurately reading around 98, and I’m hoping it doesn’t seriously affect the hatch…although it itself isn’t looking the hottest lol.

Although I’m not the happiest with the shipped eggs, I’m still looking online for Liege Fighter eggs to try to hatch for my husband’s birthday and a new incubator. I like to waste money. 🤪😂

*Picture is of my long-tailed boy. I’m thinking he might be a Sumatra cross? Not sure. He was given to me as well as my game hens.
Some of mine.

I just put 81 eggs that are mostly Rhode Island Reds or perhaps a Delaware x Rhode Island Red cross in lock down tonight. There is also a possibility that a few could be Rhode Island Red x Delaware in the mix. From the last hatch I've got 2 chicks that are black with a spot on there heads like a sex link rooster. I have a black sex link rooster that came that way from a hatchery and it's possible he could have a few in this hatching also. He and his 3 girls free range from daylight to dark having access to the brood hens during their time free ranging....

The above was actually last night. One of these days I'm going to break the bank and get an full auto incubator and separate hatcher setup... During lock down the humidity range is driving me crazy. Coastal weather can be so unstable.

The chick above died unexpectedly, went to lock the pens up and it was under its mama stiff. Unsure what had happened, something internal I'd assume. A silkie baby, I only placed 2 under her as an experiment, and now I don't have either if the two. Good thing Is, a silkie bantam went broody the other day and i gave her i think 2 or 3 silkie bantam eggs, and another hen if y'all remember me mentioned her, has 6 more silkie bantam eggs. Hoping they'll be healthier.

Our deformed little chick is doing well, was actually doing so well i gave back to its mama who hatched it, and it listens to her and can indeed see, and gets around fine.
We decided with it having one-eye, if its a rooster, his name will be Popeye. Meant to take pictures of the little dude but I forgot once again.

Looks blue to me. My Splash hatch yellow, and then are almost white for several weeks.
My one that I know is splash is like a yellow with tints of blue. Most times my blues are blue. This one, harder to see in pics, is more blue with tints of yellow undertones. Mom is a blue frizzle project Cochin,. Dad is either blue Cochin or Splash project Cochin

Forgot to mention, yes i did candle the orpingtons, but i dont see any veining, assuming they just have haven't developed any of that yet as they are bigger eggs and are only on day 3. Although, out of the 11 i have, 8 have darker yolks, so maybe it's starting to happen. I will candle some, if not all, again on day 5 (Saturday night otherwards).

I don't always see it on day 3 but darker yolks is always a sign for me.
