I just wanted to update everyone. I have the BEST kids! MY oldest son, Willoughby, is 16 years old. He really tries to step up to the plate and help the family out. When he woke up this morning, I told him about me spending the $200 to buy the 20 new hens from the neighbor so we can get enough eggs to participate in the new BYC egg selling program. He is such a great kid--always helping out however he can. He has been walking along the roads ,picking up aluminum cans for 2 yrs. so he could buy a 1992 Ford F150 pick up for himself. It is his pride and joy. He told me not to worry about the $200. He said that he would just try to spend a little extra time picking up cans to cover the $200.
I also told him I was a little worried about the coop size now that we have the 20 new hens. Our current coop can house about 10-15 birds max. I don't want to be ineligible to sell my eggs through the BYC program if I don't meet the "square foot per bird" requirement.
Well, a little while ago, Willoughby drives up to our trailer with an 8x10 SHED in the back of his truck. He got it from Craig's List! In the cab of the truck is the guy who is selling the shed. I told Willoughby it is a really nice shed, but no way can we afford it. Right then and there,Willoughby signed the title of his truck over to the seller! My son and the guy unloaded the shed, and the man got in the truck and drove away. My son said, "mom, consider this an early birthday present!" Like I said I HAVE THE BEST KIDS!!!!
Who would have thought the new BYC egg selling program could be such a blessing! I know how hard my son worked to get that old truck, but he was willing to give it up to help his mama!
