Everything here on BYC is fun for me..........but an egg program WOULD be a great idea.......Happy April Fool's Day everyone!

X2 I honestly hope that no one really bought more chickens, incubators or building materials but really I thought it was a funny joke. I fell for it and was happy to have an excuse to think about doing another hatch for more pullets (well beyond the Easter hatch kicking into full gear tomorrow

) but did start laughing when I figured it out.

Yeah I wasn't all that crazy into it either (before I figured it out) since I sell my eggs at work. Although now I need to increase my price from $1 to $3 !!!

Oh ya, and the naming thing. That was funny. How the heck could someone with 50 red stars possibly tell them apart! That should have tipped me off but I'm as gullible as they come.

I think more people needed to follow the first line of you signature, ranchhand. It did say in the first post that you would need to apply for and be approved. So anyone that would buy more chickens, or otherwise change their plans for this were really jumping the gun. When I first read it, my thoughts were, I wonder if my chickens have however many square feet, and then, man, I'll have to make up names for them.... I bought it. But, as you can see, I didnt post, choosing instead to wait and see what this was all about. I wasn't sure about the whole inspection thing, and figured if this went through the government would end up getting involved, and so was very hesitant.

So, no, I dont think this was in poor taste. I think it was a good joke, and I also think that there will ALWAYS be people who get sore when a good joke is pulled on them.

I fgured it was an April fool's joke...something didn't add up right when Mahroni make his suggestions. There is NO way you can sell eggs without a license.

Is Virginia included in this?

I have 38 hens right now, some are older and don't lay every day but I average most of days 2 dozen a day. Sometimes more than that. I have a broody BO so she isn't laying right now.

I have several different breeds.

Delaware, EE, WJG, BO, 1 white Leghorn and quite a few mutts that give me cream colored eggs.

OH, I fell for it! I am still laughing! My daughter came over and read it, and when I told her it was an April Fool's Day prank she cracked up laughing too!

All in good fun! I thought it was hilarious! LOVED IT ! ! ! Wish I could dream up something as funny to pull!

You definately need to charge more. That doesn't even cover the feed cost. I have a customer who refuses to give me $3 a dz and insists on giving me $4 because she knows the real worth. You at least need to charge what a comperable product is in the store or you are undercutting real local farmers who are trying to make a living as a farmer.
