I ended up with 7/13 hatched, need to get a new incubator!

so keep the #s coming all, I will try to calculate additions since the last #s post, and try, try again. knowledge comes with experience.

I learned, I think we like smaller #s. The LG is kinda cramped during lockdown as I taped it shut last time to discourage opening it.

we have another ~11 going now

8 eggs from crossing our Splash man and Barred rock ladies
and 3 eggs from a nicely laced, dark mahogany RIR hen X Splash man

We wound up with 6 out of 15 on the first batch and 22 of 29 on the second batch.

OMG one of my Marans eggs is moving!!! We're on day 25 and I was starting to think about tossing them, I look in the bator and I see it rocking!!! As you can tell I'm very excited, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. Do I just wait it out now and see what happens? I'm a little worried the shells are going to be tough to break as I've heard this can be a problem with Marans. If they needed help how would I know when to do it if they haven't pipped? Part of me wants to help and give them a shot if I need to, the other part of me thinks nature needs to take it's course.

I actually set my eggs on April 1st they should be ready for lock down on the 19th with a hatch day of the 22nd. There are 40 little ones. I will be candling them tomorrow to see all the ones that are viable still so excited!!!

I started with 24 eggs. Then after candling went down to 20. One piped on the side and died and one died early in incubation, so I ended up with 18 healthy chicks! They hatched on the 2 & 3rd.

I HAVE A CHICK THAT HATCHED AND IT REFUSES TO WALK CAUSE ONE OF THE CLAWS KEEPS CURLING UNDER

CAN I MAKE A BOOT
OR SHOULD I USE THE BANDAID TECHNIQUE TO STRENGTHEN ITS LEGS

PLEASE IT IS THE ONLY ONE THAT IS A DIFFERENT COLOR THAN THE REST (IT ISNT BLACK AND RED)

Hi Mary,

I have never had the problem, but understand that some do make a boot for it and tape the toes to the piece of cardboard for a couple days, etc.

I have a chick with really bad curled toes, it is no longer walking on its ankles, but, its toes are really badly turned towards each other, so an improvement, but, not what I hoped for.
as well, it's not growing at all. It is definitely stunted. It's about 1/4 the size of everybody else. Sadly, I don't think the prognosis is great for this baby. My daughter still thinks there is a 'chance'.
it is still running around, eating, drinking, pooping, seems healthy, just not growing. !!!

good luck with your baby. I am going to reboot Scooter, and hope I can improve it some more. I wanted to have added it back to its group, but, due to its smaller size, don't think it's possible, I have a roommate for it, and it is a brat, haha, has such a personality, keeps flying out of the nursery and likes to perch on our shoulders. a sweetheart, I am hoping it is a girl. It will then be a keeper.

I have sold 7 more, so, only 21 babies left for sale. !!
