lol that was good

So far I have 4/17 hatched (a BCM, a BO and 2 EE's) and two more have pipped. I pulled the first four out and put them in the brooder, re-wet my sponges and rearranged the eggs a bit as they'd been knocked around A LOT by their "siblings!" So it was kind of like a reset this morning. Today begins day 23 for me, but again, temps ran low in the beginning so I will run the bator through Tuesday just in case. I did have to assist that first one more than I would have liked -- the membrane was crazy-thick. It was like peeling off a rubber ball. But once I got it away from her face she did the rest by herself, and she's out now and doing fine.

I really hope I have more hatch! Congrats to all of you with excellent hatches, and to those of you still waiting...

I have close to 30 chicks hatched now (out of 42) - haven't counted them, as I snatch them up when they are dry and plop them under an ecoglow.. I'll have an exact count later.. I hope more turkens hatch - only 4/12 so far and I wanted those the most. Anyone near me have turken eggs?

My incubation period had been going absolutely perfect until lockdown... Then I come home yesterday (day 19, no pips) and temps are fine but my humidity had dropped to 35%. Turns out the sponge I had in there was just drying out and not wicking up any moisture. Had to open the bator and replace it with a wash cloth last night. Went to bed at about midnight and everyhing is good - temp 99.5 and humidity 60%... Then I woke up this morning around 6 and checked it when I went to grab some water and my temps are 101.5 with 25% humidity?!?!?! I look and somehow my water container has shifted and apparently spilled water down the back of the bator - luckily not on the eggs. So I open it up, right the conatiner really quickly, and close the bator to fill the water (I rigged it so I could do that). Then I look at my temps and they start going CRAZY. Turns out my thermometer was running low on batteries! $@!*%!!!

So I open it again, pull it out really quickly, and change them out but I'm not sure I trust it. I want to go buy another one but I don't want to open the bator for a fifth time. ARGH, whyyyyy on day 20????? All I can be thankful for is that this happened before anyone pipped. Now I'm just crossing my fingers that no damage was done

I got one half way zipped! I'm so mad though because the kids had to go to school today to make up a snow day and they are missing the first one!

Today is day 21. Out of the ones I candled before lockdown, 12 passed the test. Out of those 12, 3 have hatched so far. 2 Blue Copper Marans and a Blue Birchen Maran. The rest don't appear to have even pipped yet. Should I be worried?

I had one hatch on day 20 and two on day 21 (April 1) Today I have another one out and two pipping Day 22...that leaves just 2 eggs out of my 8 eggs in the incubator for lockdown. One egg was questionable and the other...no sign yet. I have heard of people not getting any from a hatch...but I hear many more who get late hatches. Good luck!!
