I had posted a pic of my new broody yesterday & am looking forward to seeing her set someday too. Good luck with your broody & eggs. Hope she gets back on track soon, the amazing egg seems to be able to survive a lot.

Yes, I can see that you are enjoying the "fruits" of your well planned "traveling hatch" now in March on your trip to Maryland (I think it was). I've never seen Silver Lakenvelders before & look forward to pics of the chicks in April on that fun holiday. What a fun opportunity you have to to see, care for & collect eggs to take home. You'll be having some real interesting hatches that I will be on the edge of my seat to hear about. What fun breeding programs there will be in you're future.

Yippe I'm joining!
7 whoknowswhats, the broody just wouldn't stop sittin so I gave in and got some eggs from a friend. I just ordered 16 chicks too... urm I hope dad won't mind.
We're due the 10th

Im so scared for these little eggs... All but a handful of aircells have not reconnected/settled... AHHH!!! Im so crushed!!! I dont know what to do!! Out of 35 eggs I only have about 5 that are connected! One these eggs were expensive and two I wanted these so badly! Ok Im done now... thanks for listening... cross your fingers for these little babies!!

Want to join too! One dozen Welsummer eggs due to hatch on April 8th...had trouble candling them as their shells are so dark,

but am hopeful!! This is our first hatch!! Cross your fingers!!

Ok, jumping on the April hatch bandwagon. My march hatch managed 9 Barred Rocks and 11 Buff Orpingtons. This time around I've got 12 Delawares, 12 Mille Fleur D'Uccles, 6 Barred Rocks and 6 Buff Orpingtons in the bator. I'm figuring about an 80% hatch from last month but I think it would have done better if I hadn't had temp fluctuations right at lock down. Most of the eggs that didn't hatch had mostly developed chicks in them. So hoping for a successful April 13 hatch.

I needed to add water, so I candled tonight. Very sad

I had to remove 14 non developing eggs. I opened them all up. 12 were not fertile and 2 quitters.
On the other hand 16 look good

Keep your fingers crossed. My fingers are crossed for all my fellow hatchers. And my temp and humidity were perfect. 12 days before I had to add water!

Monday I set three "mutt" eggs from out BOx chickens. And Tuesday I set 5 bantam eggs from a friend's yard (I don't know what kind they are I haven't seen them yet. My hubby says they look like our BOxRIR rooster, only tiny. The eggs are very teeny and very "egg-shaped" not like the round bantam eggs we used to get from my hubby's grandpa).

My March hatch didn't go so well, I set 8 eggs from our chickens. About half of them developed and out of those we have one healthy chick.

So I'm hoping for better luck this time around
