that makes sense... where do you get a blue light I wonder. I spent 75 dollars on my flashlight.. don't want to buy another one. Is there a way to make a lens you think?

I took a piece of blue plastic and placed over the lens of my mag lite (the small AA size) But it has to be pretty thin. Some flashlights use an LED that puts out a bright blue light and those would be best. I don't think they have to cost anything near $75 though. If all else fails for me I have a police type flashlight that the last time I aimed it at the sky, I got a letter from NASA saying I was disturbing the sleep of astronauts on the space shuttle. I saw a post the other day showing a specific flashlight that works really well, But I can't find it now.
I will keep looking.

Well what is up with this. I get busy for just one lil ol afternoon and come back to 5 new pages of posts. sheesh.
But the time was well spent. I had to build a second incubator. So I am in the April hatch twice now. I set 13 more Serama eggs last night so I now have hatches due on the 8th and the 14th. The second bator is working better also. I made it from a Styrofoam box.
This second clutch started out as 14 eggs and just like last time one was cracked. But this time of the other 13 only 5 had detached air cells, the other 8 look good. Which for me means I didn't see anything wrong. I may have one with a damaged yolk but set it anyway. I am not tossing anything that I am not certain is bad. So far that is limited to cracked shells.

Ok.. count me in! Just set 36 eggs this morning!! 12 Americana, 9 Barred Rock x Production red, 8 Delaware, 6 Production red and 1 Buckeye.. This will be my second attempt.. Last summer I tried it and failed miserably due to very bad incubator fluctuations in both temp and humidity.. But, This time I made my incubator better and the temps don't fluctuate too much... Good luck to everyone!!!

and probably a quick check on the others (33) to see if all is well....thank goodness I'm going camping with my girlfriends I am obsessed they aren't due to hatch until the 6th. I have promised my self that this is the last batch until Fall do you think I can wait? It's looking like I'll have plenty to eat eggs and meat

Pax12,
What are you using for your egg cam? I would love to do the same with my hens and greenhouse. Do you also have a temp gauge for the greenhouse that you can see inside? My greenhouse is about 100 feet away from my house.

My first set of eggs were set Sunday- due April 11. AND I AM KIND OF A FRANTIC "MOM". I guess the first is always the most nerve racking?

My hen is 3 years old....just got a roo Dec. All my girls are Cochin Bantams, and none of the eggs are from my sitting hen, so it will be a surprise if they hatch. My girl is too in the zone- she will only eat if food is right in front of her and she isn't drinking too much, which makes me wonder if she is getting up and turning the eggs? I did mark them, but I can't tell!

Im using a logitech webcam.
And my Green House is around 70 in the winter

I put the eggs in the bator last night. 20 or so ameraucana eggs and then about 20 RIR or buff brahma x EE eggs. I havent counted yet, woops!! The incubator is almost full though, a beautiful sight.

Anyone else put eggs in the bator today?? I love hatching buddies!!
