They're painted. But really, if you're looking for some good green and pink eggs - Get Easter Eggers.

Labelled falsely as "Ameraucanas" in hatcheries, but they'll lay you brown, pink, green, and blue-green eggs.

Well, I did a couple candlings, today is day 5. I candled one Jersey Giant egg, three Marans eggs, and one Ameraucana egg. The Ameraucana egg is fertile, the Jersey Giant looks fertile, but not sure. . . And the Marans eggs don't look fertile.

Five were cracked when I candled, patched 2 and ate the other 3

Anyway - Monday pulled 2 clears and put 8 Silver Lakenvelders in lockdown -- due tomorrow so will look for pips when I get home. I set the 130 eggs, along with the 8/12 surviving Marans that came on friday - very poorly packaged:

She has promised to send another dozen for the cost of the postage. I shared our 'BYC egg packaging for shipping' thread.

Yesterday I went to KY for eggs and milk and gathered 41 'test' eggs - I know they are fresh as I got them still warm from the nest [and yes, I keep 'sterilizable clogs for use there

came home and stuffed the 4th bator. A half dozen each of French Blue Marans eggs and Speckled Sussex eggs are due this week, so put the finishing touches on my home-made bator and am letting it heat - adjust - heat - adjust.................................now.

I have also gotten in some "dirt therapy" as the weather is beautiful. Am terribly behind reading posts, but confess, I have been spending my early am

time sitting on the porch with my pretty little flock, ranging in age from 5 weeks, 7 weeks, 3 months and 6 months and integrating beautifully.

Save the Faves -- the "plug in thingy" that converted 12v to 120v so that I could plug in my hatcher on the trip to MD is called an 'inverter'. I got it at a truck stop. They com fron 150watts to 1500 watts, but for a cigarette lighter you don't want to go larger than 300 watts [which is what I have] or it will overheat [ask me how I know] and turn off. If you need more than 300 watts you need to be able to attach it directly to the car battery. Going to be working on an outdoor pen and some raised beds the rest of the week while the weather holds.

So, I just found this thread, but I'm going to jump in if ya'll don't mind! Here's what I have due this month:

In the bator:
Silkie-feathered Ameraucanas and some EEs - due 4/1 (some are already hatching)
Sebastopol eggs - due 4/13
Copper Marans & barred EE eggs - due around 4/15 - I forgot to mark them

15 turkey eggs under 2 turkeys - due around 4/10
9 turkey eggs under another turkey - due around 4/19
2 EE eggs under the 4th turkey - due around 4/10
Copper Marans & barred EE eggs under a Cochin - due around 4/12
Frizzle Cochin & EE eggs under a Cochin - due around 4/15

And a Silkie working on being broody - I'll give her some Silkie eggs if she decides to sit.

ok so... i have 5 days left of hatch...

3 of my 5 have great air sacs... one is dead but i shall leave it in incase... and one has a small airsac... any advice on how to get the airsac larger without killing the other 3 in the process?

i have no water in atm to try and get the other air sac larger

Only 5 days left, yippie! If it was me, I'd always do what's best for the best looking ones & nothing that could jeopardize them. Just "stay the course." Then I'd just cross my fingers for the "iffy" ones, as Mother Nature seems to know if they should make it or not. Besides sometimes they just make it & it's a bonus.

I'm hatching right now but I also have more in the bator due to hatch next week and two weeks from now. I've got 56 EE, EEX, BO and RIR eggs as well as four Bourbon Red Turkey eggs.
