Hope your incubator/s stabilized. I'm back to work on Monday too, we just have to cram in as much fun on weekends as possible. I usually try to wait until the weekend to do incubator things, it works out really great when I can plan a setting to end up with the lockdown on the weekend. Happy hatching thoughts coming your way.

I'm in! I have not incubated eggs since 2003! I was quite addicted to it. I have promised myself that I will not get addicted again. I only need a few chickens. I have 27 black and blue mottled arriving today and 12 splash frizzle arriving Wednesday (I hope Wednesday). If they arrive on time then I will be setting them in the incubator sometime Thursday. I am so excited!

i'm on day 13 and just candled my 10 blrw. out of the 10 eggs 2 are developing 3 are ? and 5 don't look like they ever really got past day 3.

i was so hoping to have a better hatch this time. my last hatch only 1 hatched out of 8. i have had some weird low temp readings that seem to only happen at night
i'm not sure what to do about them i can't catch when its happening and its always back up to temp when i check it in the morning. last night it dropped to
74 some time after 1am but was back to 100 at 5

Awesome!! And thanks! She sure is determined. I have to throw the treats in her nest box because she wont leave that egg to come down and get a few

I guess I'm a little crazy.

It's day 10 and when I candled I noticed I miscounted in the beginning. I had 10 ameraucanas and 9 mutts. Not 12 and 11 or whatever I said originally.

Out of the 10 A. eggs one quit and the other 9 have movement. Out of the 9 mutts one quit and 8 have movement. So at day 10 having 17 out of 19 aint bad.

Hope they all make it to hatch!!

Thanks for the tip on sneaking in treats for your broody. I recently added a veteran broody, a Silkie & although she has not started setting yet, one of my last year hens did start & won't hardly budge from the nest. Haven't done the "broody" hens before, just collect eggs quickly; so I'm new to this. I'll be making sure that she gets food & water too, she's so good at this so far.

Pumpkin Hulseys are a gorgeous and rare game bird - Look up Pumpkin Hulsey, and you'll find images and a feathersite article for them.

So far my Marans, Jersey Giants, and some of my Ameraucanas are doing well. The rest, however, probably aren't. I tried buying a fan for my Little Giant, but guess what? I DOESN'T WORK!!! I am really upset, because I spent WAY too much time allowing the eggs to cool while fiddling with it and trying to make it work. In the end I spend $49 for nothing.

SOO. . . If any eggs in the Little Giant survive and develop by day 7-10, and if I find any quitters in the Hovabator - I'm moving them and replacing the quitters.

I'm tired of my Little Giant. Even with close supervision I got a 0% hatch rate on the second try. There were 4 eggs that developed, but on hatch day and even before that - There was no sign of activity or life. I cracked them open, and found dead, underdeveloped chicks.

Atleast they were from my own chickens, and not paid for eggs.
