April Hatch Along

We have no humidity up here right now, very cold and dry

I am going to have to really watch them carefully and run my humidity at the higher end! My eggs are not from up on the mountain so not sure how that factors in!
My eggs were local, but came from 1,000 ft lower in elevation. Our outdoors temp and weather has been all over the place. It was pretty warm and snow was melting like crazy, then it was raining buckets, now it's colder and snowing again. My house is all log construction and our heat is a pellet stove so that dries out the air more so I was worried about humidity. I'm certainly keeping humidity it a little higher now in the incubator... more like 40% It's nerve wracking with conditions changing so fast from one day to the next and it being my first hatch! I just hope the eggs handle it OK.

AGREED! Hopefully everything goes well for you!

I am hatching in my classroom, so I am in there a lot checking! So hard when they are not right at my finger tips all the time. Heater at school is running all the time. But then I guess if you think about momma hen, she is setting on eggs going through all of these changes in nature and has no problem..LOL!!! I think as long as my eggs are losing moisture at a slow steady rate, I should be good!

I hope

39 Bourbon Red turkey eggs in lockdown. Hope I get a lot of birds. They are so much better as chicks than chickens. They are so much more curious and playful. Chicken chicks are fun, but I believe turkey poults are better.

I have ten eggs collected and ready to go into the incubator but was hoping to get 12, well my biggest girl seems to have stopped laying, and looks like she might be starting to molt, and my little hen that lays great has taken to hiding her eggs and trying to make nests in the woods, or the wood shed, or where ever else she can! Not sure if she is going broody or just upset by the ravens that are curious about the coop. :-( But the incubator is on!! So 10 or 12 by Tuesday they are going in!! Trying to give the incubator 48 hours but it's hard to wait, especially if there is no eggs to collect!!!

Well, 10 or 12, it's still going to be great to have you along with us! What breeds are your chickens?

I was watching some poults in the farm store the other day - they were pretty darn cute!!

Hi all may I join.
Just put in bought eggs from breeders on Thursday the 6.
This is my most important and expensive hatch. I am changing breeds. Going fom Partridge Rocks to Ameraucanas.
This hatch is all bought from local breeder and hatchery. One dozen Black Copper Marens, one dozen Blue and black Ameraucanas and one dozen barnyard for the heck of it. LoL
I don't have a rooster any more so none of my hens are fertile. This is why I bought eggs and one reason I am changing breeds.
Good luck on hatches all. Lots invested aell around.
