April Hatch Along

Pics
Still brooding!! She has 7 blue/green EE eggs (dad is a BCM, so hoping for female....yes, FEMALE OEs - I just need to get that out there because I have a giant box of CL roos....and that's another story for another day!)
We will move our buff girl in about 15 minutes into her new digs. I'm really hoping she likes it. It will definitely be more peaceful, but she will still be able to look out and see a lot of chicken flock shenanigans without being bugged by them.

:clap

And :fl for females.

I got home late and collected eggs at almost dark. One SDW was still in the box so I thought she was laying late. Nope! Went back a bit later, much after dark, and she's still there :barnie not broody #10 this year already!

The good news is... If she really is, I already have eggs in the Bator, less than a week along, that I'll give to her.

So, the missing eggs arrived at the post office today! Unfortunately all but one have completely detached air cells and one was cracked and one was questionable. So I've set them (18 hours after the first) and will watch them carefully. I've got them in an egg carton. While adding those, I traded my egg turner to my new 1611 for Hovabator. While I thought it would be better for my shipped eggs (I had the flat one that came with the 1588, I'm 99% sure it's not working.

Soooo I took a picture to compare to in a few hours, hopefully I don't have to open it yet again to fix that.
This has been such a learning experience. Even if nothing hatches (that's my luck) I feel I will leave this knowing waaaay more than I knew before!
So the final count is:
12 good looking Ameraucanas with great air cells
2 Bulge-y Ameraucanas that look at questionable
1 good looking BBS English Orpington
9 BBS Orps with detached air cells
1 BBS Orp with detached bubbly air cell

Hopefully something hatches!
The seller of the Orps is being very amiable and is working diligently to figure out what happened! They will be replacing the eggs depending on egg development.

400

I've ordered some Dominique eggs, hopefully they'll get here before Saturday.

I also have some bantam cochin eggs from my flock that will be going in the incubator hopefully next week.
Bantam Cochin eggs here too!!!

Would like to slip in if I can. Have a few full bators. Kinda went overboard.

50 eggs on lockdown for easter hal.
150 chicken eggs set to hatch next week.
8 turkey eggs next week.
25 turkey eggs in 2 weeks.

Set 42 turkey eggs yesterday. 30 cot quail. And 12 pheasant eggs.

If I get 10 more turkey eggs will have 50 ready to go in.

Bought a cabinet incubator at Christmas and my addiction thinks I must be full. Plus my small incubators.

Mountainbourbons: Glad to see your having a good gatch.

I have a love/hate relationship with the whole pip/zip process. I adore watching chicks hatch, but I feel like a birth coach before that. I'm sure my family thinks I must really go a little insane at hatch time as I cluck, click, chat with, tap, say things like, "Just one good push, come on, you can do it!", and all kinds of other encouraging words for each hatchling's progress through these tedious stages! (Oh, I also say things like, "Get off your brother's egg shell, can't you see he's trying to hatch!!")
LOL! yep!!! Have to talk and cheer for those babies!

Fighting your way outta that egg is a big job!

Project Broody - strike one.
Well, that was a total fail. It was just a little too light, and she could see her way out to pace and cluck at the fence line. I will try again tomorrow. If that doesn't work, I have another idea because she can't stay where she is - it's way too busy with 27 hens coming in and out to lay eggs and two noisy roosters trying to "show" the hens which nesting boxes to use....
