April Hatch Challenge....

Its the hole in the skull of Silkies that allows the brain to protrude. It was originally bred into the birds because the thinking was that it would create a larger, more round crest with more feathers per square millimeter. It is a highly controversial subject these days, and I dont suggest you ask about it publicly. Find a few people whom you trust to learn from and discuss it privately with them.

Good to know,
I need to learn to speak Silkie, of the 14 chicks I picked up on Easter weekend, 11 are silkies. They are so cute and fluffy.

Oh yea, that was me. It worked ok, BUT, I built a hatcher so that I could move the first batch into the hatcher and increase the humidity while the second batch stayed in the bator. I didn't really do anything different but most of the eggs died in the hatcher. 2nd batch I did the same thing, "got a perfectly good hatcher, might as well use it... " Well most of those died too.

So, I've chalked it all up to the hatcher. I don't think the eggs like it, it is pretty much the same but they all went in fine and didn't come out.

So, (long story I know) from now on I'm leaving everyone in the bator. they can just hatch in there.

there are several posts where people have left the staggered hatchs in the bator and just let them do thier thing and they seem to work ok.

Good Luck!
