I lockdown on Monday also. My first hatch. Hope I don't mess it up. I have seen movement in a few of them. I am having problems with humidity Can't keep it over 40% I have a sponge I will use at lockdown and hopefully can bring it up. Good luck to you and keep us posted. I will post pics if I get any chicks. I only set 9 mutts

This is my first hatch too! And if you are going into lockdown on monday that means our eggs should be hatching on the same day. I am down to 5 ameraucana eggs and 16 mixes (and boy are there going to be some interesting chicks). Good luck with your eggs too, cant wait too see what both our chicks look like (I will post pics too).

lol i know what you mean!. i have 8 chicks in the brooder and 4 in the incubator and 2 or 3 more peeping. my 4 year old is going crazy

he loves the baby chicks wants to hold them all the time. having a good hatch this time.

 It is so nice to be with people that understand ! Some of my friends just don't understand how addicting chickens are. I went out today and what did I come home with? MORE chicks!!! But Honey, I didn't have this kind yet!!!  And look at how cute they are! And they are almost the same age as the ones hatching, sooooo they can all go in together. e And look how happy it makes me.

Well I had so many chicks hatching had to buy stuff for a new brooder. Total in brooder tonight are 65! There are more hatched out but haven't transferred them over yet! I don't have all the breeds I want either. I am wanting silkie hens. I lost my silkie hen this winter. I have a black silkie roo Emmitt. I also want showgirls and turkens. I have 4 week old turkeys! Oh and geese! There r probably more but this is my have to absoutly have to have list!

Want to report on the hatch I nearly threw in the garbage..............

I have no idea why they hatched.nothing went right.temp problems caused humidity problems.............
Went into lockdown nothing until day 23...now have 7 chicks from 11 eggs..............
Going to give the rest a few more just in case days..............
I had even pulled the eggs out and listened with a stethoscope several times during lock down.......
not a sound.really thought they were dead........
Fooled me the little devils.....................

Really - a stethoscope works?!? Heartbeats or movement? Now I wish I would have grabbed mine yesterday before heading home.... have 3 I'm still waiting for in my incubator, and 8 in the brooder (6 BCM and 2 EE).

Well, I went to an exotic animal sale, and was gone for two days.
My Golden Seabrights were due to hatch today, and when I got home tonight there were 11 of the little devils waiting for me!

All the birdys are asleep im afraid, i have literally been finding reasons to leave the house so i don't open the bator, i have been very good so far but if there is still no noise or external pips by the end of day 20 then il prob candle to check for internal pips, they are bantams so should be externally pipped by tomorrow, this is from my other bantam experiences

IF the electric went for just an hour the inside of the eggs should have stayed warm in the incubator. Sometimes hens go for a wander for ages and go back to the eggs and they hatch fine so don;t get tooo upset just yet. Also you might find they are late in developing due to the temp going down - so do try to leave them and NOT OPEN THE BATOR!!!!!!!

Ended up with six chicks out of 9 eggs that made it to lockdown. I suppose I should wait another day (that would be day 23) and then do the float test? When do you call it quits?
