I have 3 broody hens now! Completley didn't expect that to happen. I have never even had one and now all of the sudden I have 3! Plus the 21 eggs in the incubator. That means lots of baby chicks hopefully. My hen that broody first named goose is so funny. She thought she would try and lay on as many eggs as possible and gathered all but like 5 eggs in the coop. I know she is laying on at leat 15. Good thing she is one big hen.

If all the pipped eggs have hatched I will candle them at that point to check for internal pips, movement, veins (you should still see veins in unpipped eggs. If there are no veins and no movement than it is a quitter)

My two orphaned broody eggs are due today, and this little one hatched at 5:50am! My brain woke me up just in time to watch it zip. The second one is pipped and should start hatching this afternoon.

That is the PERFECT chicken hatching photo! I LOVE IT!!

ok here are pictures from my 1st hatch ever !!!!! we had the 1st out last sunday and the last out yeasterday... high humidity and low temps.... ALL had to be assisted once they piped as none could zip (no air sack at all!) 2 had to be piped as well... took 24-48 hours to get each chick 1/2 way out of shell after pip, no blood loss on any

and ALL are healthy and happy!!!! total at 15 chicks!!!!!!!

oops those are not chicks :) but still super cute!

Lockdown!!!!

I had a question... Can I use muffin papers to keep eggs from rolling? Will they hurt the chicks or make it difficult for them to push themselves out of their eggs?

Ok, I really am losing it!! My eggs haven't even arrived yet (should be here on Wednesday) and I could have sworn I heard a cheep this afternoon!!! I am so chicken crazy I am having audio hallucinations!!!!

ok, so I am crazy... sometimes I dont know why I do what I do! I have 28 shipped eggs in the incubator ... and I put 5 ON TOP of one row, so when I candel and toss the clear ones I will still have a full incubator
cool.png
I am not turing them until day 4 and then I guess I will have to mark them and put them under one of my broodies until I candel again at day 7..... and I just though... because of this they will now all devolope!!! and I will be moving those extra eggs around form incubator to broody to what ever I can once her chicks start to hatch!!!!

OMG....................looks just like my girl Blue as a puppy.
We had to put her down a few weeks ago and I am still heart broken.
She would have been 15 this month..........Her arthritis was so bad she kept falling.
She was a good friend............
