April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Removed 4 more eggs today. Honestly only still hold out any hope for two. Leaving the others only in case I am wrong. But doubt it...
The eggs are due wednesday. The two I said might be ok ...well the eggs are not full as I would think they should be. AS I have seen in the past.
SO...unless Cream legbars are tiny babies...
Only time will tell.
Nice to see others babies pipping and zipping.
Congrats birdie parents!

Hi, my first post!

I am incubating eggs for the first time. I am a newbie to the whole chicken thing but it is very addictive! We recently had a chicken (Australorp) go broody so I purchased a few eggs and she hatched 3. It was a great experience. Those babies are 3 weeks old now. I am incubating 14 araucana x white leghorns from my own chickens. We are on day 4 and after candling last night I can see the spider veins in 12 of them. 1 was put in the next day and the other I think is no good. I have had a few worries with the eggs being porous but after comparing some photos on this site I think they are ok and not actually porous. This incubating thing is a little stressfull! It was so much easier when the hen was doing all the work!

Does the egg look like this one? It hatched fine.

is this egg porous? This egg I wasn't sure if it was too old so put it I anyways.

Yes, Dry hatch means low humidity for the first 18 days but then it has to be raised to 65% or so. My last hatch had now sticky chicks or shrink wrap.

Happy Hatching!
Yes thank you this is what I thought I was to do.started to worry that I'm going to kill my chicks before its time to hike up the humidity. Pheww!

I am so happy that I am not alone. You'd think after awhile the urges to camp over the incubator would decrease....but noooooooooooo
I still find myself up without sleep for a few days during lockcown and still facinated at the miracle of hatching..............
Does it ever get better..............hope not........

H ha I am doing that and mine are only on day 4!!!!!! I am not exactly sure what I hope to see ?- If I stay here much longer I will grow feathers and climb in! -

Oh god. I never realised I said anything about it being humid here! I said damp! But yes it does get very humid in the summer it's horrible. It brings out my asthma really bad! The air is a little more so because we had a warmer day today. But I would not leave my eggs dry when the first pip came round! I'm planning on hiking that right up to 65% 70%. As far as air cells go my flock eggs are right on track. It's just the shipped eggs I'm worried about. That's why I asked the other person that had said he left his eggs dry during hatching and he's lost most.

Honestly I would keep the sprayer handy for lockdown and hatch even though the air is more humid this part of the world. We lost about 6 fully formed chicks one year through shrink wrap.
We are just across the water in Ireland and it is supposed to be "damper" here! historically! - good luck. I only have 4 weird eggs right now "cooking slowley! " Not sure if anything will emerge?
Probably Rooooooooooooo boys knowing my luck! Even the eggs are the wrong colour and two died before they got out of the packaging! Iam waiting a miricle for sure!
Oes
