April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Couldn't sleep so ended up candling incubator #1 - 14 developing (guess the one I thought was a blood ring wasn't) and fairly sure the other 12 of the first set are duds now. I'll remove the clears on the 14th day unless things smell.

Of the grocery store eggs I tossed in, it looks like one is for sure developing :D They are still a bit too early to say for sure on any but the one that is really darkened up. These eggs are dark like I would guess Marans would be.

Neat observations included watching a heat beat - one egg had a superb view!
Air cells look better, they are easier to see than in the beginning. Most of the duds are from one kind of chicken - golden lakenvelders (all of those eggs are duds). The others only have 1-2 duds per type, except the guys on the bottom were about 50/50.

Bator #2 is finally into good humidity as well as temperatures. The wait until I can actually candle these guys will be hard. Ok, with that I'm going to try and go back to sleep.

So it's finally Day 21 and I'm now at 18/39 out! 5/6 PB Basque, 7/8 Basque cross, 4/10 Cuckoo Orps, and 1/6 Dark Cornsih are out!

Here are some pics from earlier today before the hatching frenzy that just happened :p

one silkie and 3 big eggs, they are either LO, or BLRW ... and a Huge egg from my own chickens ...that I put in as an expermante (it is either a HUGE single egg or a double.... and it had been rocking since last night!
big_smile.png
I have not checked the eggs under the silkie hen yet.... one started to peep yeasterday, so I am hoping to find a fluffy butt when I go out there

How long can I wait to put the incubator chicks with the silkie mom... she is very docile and sweet, and good with chicks not her own... I was thinking that I would just move them to her when I take them out of the incubator.... I have a heat lamp set up with her, so it will be like a brooder box...

SOOOOOO..... this being my first hatch and all... I am getting worried
