Also just moved all eggs left in the still air to broody sussex hens if anyone can hatch them they will

keeping the still air going and will fidget with it... good learing experence

WE ARE ON DAY 18!!!! for lavender orp., BLR Wyandotte and isabel/lavender and buff silkie eggs

a silke hen is sitting on 6 eggs and the rest are in the brinsea incubator (they will be given to her once they fluff up .... and I am fixing up a hot house for them out of 4X4 dog crates with a heat lamp and with a small 4x6 yard right up against the house, inside the larger silkie yard that is about 50 x50 .... our temps here are already quite warm so I believe this will work quite well and she is a super sweet silkie so I am hoping she will bring the babies right to me my sebright mom did this... I love her

Anna-I don't have that problem (don't have a hubby) but one day I would like to try incubating other than my eggs. BUT I don't think I would EVER spend that much on shipped eggs. If I ever do a shipped order of anything to my house most likely would be chicks or started pullets. I am hoping for the best for you...I am just as nervous about others hatchings as I am my own...

Woke up this morning to find my incubator temperature at 62 degrees. Somehow the plug was knocked loose. 33 eggs in there that were cold to the touch. I am so upset. I always check them before going to bed and for some reason last night I walked right past them and into the bedroom without even a thought. Early Onset Alzheimers no doubt. Unbelieveable. Please tell me if I'm wrong, but I plan on waiting it out and see what might happen. Temp and humidity are back on track. Thought I'd candle this weekend to see if any have died and go from there. This is only day 8 for most, Day 5 for the rest. Not like their body mass was keeping them warm. Grrrr.

I'm so sorry but I'm sure most will be ok. So yes wait it out for a few days and see what happens. Hens get off the nest to stretch, etc so its in their nature to get a little cool. So I really think all will be fine...please let us all know. Don't kick yourself to much we've all been there and done that...it happens.

yea.... the addiction is bad

started off with tractor supply chicks.... wanted more so I let them go broody a few times... wanted better slection and verity of chicks so last year I ordered hatchery chicks.... 4 LF breeds and 2 bantam breeds.... and knew even then I wanted to do some of these beautiful hobby breeder birds and saved for the brinsea for 8 months!!!!! The day I got it I bid on my eggs! and with in a week I was on a waiting list for eggs to fill in bator for 2 more hatches!!!!!

next batch 8 coronation sussex, 8 sultans, 6 citron hamburgs and 2 isabel brahma eggs

after that Peacocks!!!!!!!

yes, Ive had broody hens leav the nest for half a day in the beginning and still had chicks hatch...

Annabell254, It sounds to me like you have my dream home! 50 acres! wow! The husband and I have been looking for a new place to move, and Georgia was never really on my radar. I want acres and trees and he wants warm weather and a super cheap price. HA!

I just ordered some eggs to try hatching and they were 20$ including the shipping! I got them here and am pretty happy with the price. They aren't a fancy breed, but something fun for my husband and if any of them hatch he will be a happy guy. I figured it would be a great way to give shipped eggs a chance, and try a few new breeds.

Oooh. That stinks. hopefully there will be some that are salvageable. I have a hatch going at a school right now and the teacher found out that they turn the heat off in her room over the weekends. She came in and the incubator temp was super low. I candled yesterday and it seems like more than half that were originally set are okay. (They should hatch next week)

Thank you both for the encouragement. I'll keep my fingers crossed. First time hatching and I was soooo happy yesterday when I candled and all but one were veining, then woke up to this. ugh.

Yes, I love it here... big pecan orchards, laid back living, and the land here is still much cheaper than nation wide priceing Check out thomasville Ga. it still has brick streets down town and Tallahassee Fl. is beautiful as well and a biger city only 30 mins away from thomasville .... it is a great place to raise kids and have a farm and still have city life close by
